Neurofeedback Brain Training in Sydney and Sutherland Shire

Most of us know what it feels like to have a busy, unsettled nervous system. The racing thoughts at 2am. The low-level tension that never quite lifts. The sense that your brain is stuck in a gear it can’t get out of.

Neurofeedback brain training is a non-invasive, drug-free technology that works directly with your brain’s own ability to self-regulate. No diagnosis required. No protocols imposed. Your brain does the work itself. We simply give it the information it needs to do so.

We use the NeurOptimal system, one of the most advanced neurofeedback technologies available. Sessions are available in person in Sydney City and the Sutherland Shire, delivered by both Andy and Angela Moule.

What is neurofeedback brain training?

NeurOptimal is an advanced brain training system developed by clinical psychologists Dr Valdeane and Dr Sue Brown. It monitors your brain’s electrical activity in real time. When it detects sudden shifts in that activity, it sends a brief interruption to the music you are listening to during the session.

That interruption acts like a mirror. Your brain notices it, recalibrates, and over time learns to operate more efficiently and flexibly. It is not being told what to do. It is being given information and allowed to respond.

This is what makes NeurOptimal different from other forms of neurofeedback. There are no targets imposed, no stimulation, and no side effects. Your brain self-corrects at its own pace.

What can neurofeedback help with?

Neurofeedback brain training is used by a wide range of people, from those managing anxiety, stress, poor sleep and emotional reactivity, to high performers looking to sharpen focus and build mental resilience.

Clients commonly report improvements in:

  • Sleep quality and falling asleep more easily
  • Anxiety levels and day-to-day reactivity
  • Focus, concentration and mental clarity
  • Emotional steadiness and stress recovery
  • Overall sense of calm and groundedness
  • Mental performance and decision-making under pressure

It is also widely used for ADHD, focus and attention challenges in both adults and children. NeurOptimal is safe for all ages, from young children through to older adults, with no side effects and no need for a diagnosis.

It works well as a standalone approach and also complements deeper subconscious work. Many clients at Be Calm Within combine neurofeedback sessions with TRTP or Resource Therapy to support the integration of the changes they are making.

What to expect in a session

A session normally lasts an hour and combines coaching and 33 minutes of Dynamical Neurofeedback. You sit comfortably with small sensors placed on your scalp and ears. You listen to music. That is it.

There is nothing you need to do, analyse, or engage with consciously. The system gives your brain the feedback and your brain does all the work, subconsciously. Most people find sessions deeply relaxing. Some notice a sense of clarity or calm immediately afterwards. Others notice changes gradually across a series of sessions.

A typical course of NeurOptimal sessions ranges from 10 to 20 sessions, depending on your goals. Some people continue with regular maintenance sessions ongoing.
